Gianni Cenni, the center-right mayoral candidate for Prato, recently signed a significant commitment document with the Corertex consortium, represented by President Raffaello De Salvo and Vice President Fabio Marseo. The document outlines four key points aimed at supporting the development of reuse and recycling in Prato’s textile district, involving about 30 companies and 320 employees.
The commitments signed include:
- Introduction of a specific Ateco code: Uniquely identify companies sorting used clothing to solve various issues and facilitate access to benefits.
- Delegation in the Council dedicated to circular textile economy: Establish a specific delegation within the Department of Environment or Economic Development, with the formation of a permanent municipal commission to hear the main sector stakeholders.
- Collaboration with the future Textile Hub: Optimize and enhance the collection and recycling of textile waste through close collaboration between the reuse and recycling district and Alia.
- Promotion and securing European funds: Promote the culture of reuse and recycling and intercept European funds aimed at ecological transition.

Gianni Cenni, Your Commitment to Prato
“The commitment is there regardless of the signature,” stated Gianni Cenni. “My electoral program is clear: making Prato the capital of ecological transition in the textile sector and recycling at the European level is a priority. Raising political awareness about the needs of the district is crucial at a time when new regulations significantly impact the market.”
Details of the Signed Commitments
Specifically, the commitments include the creation of a specific Ateco code for companies sorting used clothing, thereby resolving various issues and facilitating access to benefits. Additionally, Cenni promised to establish a specific delegation for the circular textile economy within the Council, with the creation of a permanent municipal commission.
Collaboration between the reuse and recycling district and Alia will be enhanced in anticipation of the establishment of the Textile Hub, to optimize and improve textile waste collection. Finally, the textile district will be promoted at all levels to encourage the culture of reuse and recycling and to intercept European funds aimed at ecological transition.
A Sustainable Future for Prato
“We will not only represent a point of reference for Corertex,” Cenni stated, “but also a solid bridge connecting Prato to the Government. We will commit to developing new skills to respond effectively to the environmental and sustainability challenges that influence our district.”
Corertex expressed satisfaction with the meeting, recognizing the importance of political support for the future of Prato’s textile district.
