Corertex raises alarm: Prato’s textile district at risk due to new EPR draft
The Corertex Consortium, a national leader in textile reuse and recycling, expresses deep concern over the latest draft of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) decree for textiles, currently under discussion by the Ministry of the Environment. According to the Consortium, the proposed changes could severely impact the future of Prato’s textile district, one of Europe’s main textile hubs.
The new provisions appear to favor centralized management models, overlooking the specificities and strengths of the Prato system, which relies on a network of small and medium-sized enterprises highly specialized in reuse and recycling. This approach risks undermining a sector that has made sustainability and circular economy its cornerstones
