Corertex Calls Rome: Parliamentary Candidates Met for Reuse and Recycling Sectors, Here Are the Requests to Politics
November 8, 2022An expanded board of directors meeting including all members of Corertex was held to welcome new consortium members, review the activities in the reuse and recycling sectors, and discuss the future alongside institutions. The meeting took place in Montemurlo, at the Materiaprima premises. It was an initiative by the consortium for textile reuse and recycling, which decided to organize a social gathering with all its members to confidently look at future challenges. Alongside Corertex were the Mayor of Montemurlo, Simone Calamai, Deputy Mayor Giuseppe Forastiero, and the President of Alia, Nicola Ciolini.
The consortium’s president, Raffaello De Salvo, and vice president, Fabio Marseo, discussed projects for Corertex’s future. Both emphasized the necessity of involving the consortium at the ministerial level to draft new industry rules. They highlighted the importance of dialogue between trade associations to address the topic of extended producer responsibility and stressed the crucial collaboration with institutions for the creation of textile recycling hubs, one of which is planned in Prato.

Expanded Board of Directors with All Corertex Members
The institutions showed total willingness to engage in dialogue with Corertex. Mayor Calamai acknowledged the significance of having about fifty reuse companies (mostly in Montemurlo) for Montemurlo and the province of Prato. These companies cover a total area of 50,000 square meters with warehouses, employ 600 staff, and have an annual processing capacity of approximately 70,000 tons of used garments.
Alia’s President Ciolini focused on the importance of developing the circular economy in the area, expressing full availability to collaborate within the textile recycling hub. It’s crucial to mention the significant figures in the sector represented by Corertex: currently, in Prato, up to 66% of used clothes can be reused, and 31% of processed materials are recycled, with only 3% of waste going to landfills.
